Gram + vs Gram - Bacterial Wall Comparison This piece illustrates the structures of a bacterium with color coded cell membrane and cell wall layers. Below the bacterium are two structures detailing the differences in molecular structure between a gram positive bacterium and a gram negative bacterium. The pink and purple colors are a result of staining to differentiate bacteria. The two circles show microscopic views of what both bacteria types look like – gram positive tends to be purple and gram negative is pink.
